Nathan Miller Presents at Arizona Hydrological Society

July 2023

Phoenix, AZ — Nathan Miller, Arizona Operations Manager at Matrix , recently spoke at the Arizona Hydrological Society in Phoenix.

Groundwater is a critical component of water resources in Arizona, and shortage declarations on the Colorado River have intensified the need for actively managing our groundwater resources. Groundwater models developed in key areas of the state are important tools that help water resources managers make informed decisions. Miller’s presentation provided an overview of models used throughout Arizona for Assured and Adequate Water Supply (AAWS) permitting and groundwater transportation projects. He also discussed a path forward to address key issues for recent AAWS models released by the State that show apparent deficiencies in the supply of groundwater to meet the demand over the next 100-years.

At Matrix, Miller leads the groundwater modeling team. He has over two decades of experience in groundwater modeling and water resources development/permitting.  He is recognized as a key hydrologist and modeler who regularly represents clients before ADWR and ADEQ and manages the successful completion of permits issued by these agencies.

Nathan Miller stated, “These models are incredibly important as they affect where development can move forward in Arizona. Our work has demonstrated that predictive modeling assumptions substantially affect key model results. I am glad that I was able to communicate these details to fellow hydrologists because we all need to work together to face our water resources challenges.”

According to Jayne Warne, PE, President, “Nathan is an expert in all aspects of groundwater.  Matrix is proud to be involved with providing timely water solutions that will benefit communities and the environment.”
