NYCT Radio Communications Tower Replacement

Foundational Support for Critical Infrastructure

Matrix provided engineering design services to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit (NYCT) for the replacement of approximately 150-foot tall radio communications towers at 11 locations throughout all 5 boroughs of New York City. Our professionals provided geotechnical investigation and structural design of the drilled shaft foundation at each location. The geotechnical investigation consisted of 1 boring at each of the 11 sites, each with varying challenges regarding permitting and access. Matrix procured a geotechnical driller to complete the investigation, oversaw the field exploration including sampling of the soils and obtaining blow counts, and procured laboratory testing to ascertain pertinent geotechnical design values for the proper foundation design of the proposed structures at each location.  Utilizing the boring data collected, Matrix developed a geotechnical investigation report, complete with foundation recommendations and drilled shaft analysis.

Upon completion of the geotechnical investigation report, Matrix prepared complete drilled shaft designs at each of the 11 locations including required depth of the drilled shaft based on soil conditions, concrete strength and diameter, reinforcement requirements, and anchorage requirements. Matrix prepared preliminary and final signed and sealed contract drawings and specifications for the drilled shafts at each location for inclusion in the client’s bid documents.
