Environmental Engineering for Conservation
Matrix worked with our construction partner to review the foundation of the Borough-Based Jail garage site in Queens, NY, and indicate which areas of the work site would require vapor mitigation systems to coincide with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). Matrix worked to create a sub-slab depressurization system (SSDS) that can be easily used on a site containing concrete footings and piles. A Matrix environmental engineer will overlook and inspect the creation and finalization of the SSDS as well as perform tests using vapor samples to identify whether the site requires an active or passive SSDS.
A final report was prepared by Matrix to indicate for the NYSDEC the types and quantities of materials that were removed from the work site to be either disposed of off-site or sent to a receiving facility, materials to be re-used on-site, materials imported to the site, and the description of vapor barrier and SSDS installation activities. A Matrix environmental scientist will monitor the air for volatile organic compounds and measure levels surrounding the work areas.
