Newark Bay Wetlands Restoration, City of Newark, New Jersey

Funded by a grant made to the City of Newark by the Department of Interior National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) through the Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resiliency Competitive Grant Program, Matrix New World Engineering (Matrix) restored and protects a 12-acre wetlands complex located along Newark Bay. The site, which was historically separated from Newark Bay by an 800-foot revetment wall, is one of only a few natural areas remaining in this highly industrialized portion of Newark Bay. Although some healthy tidal wetlands remain, most of the site has become highly degraded by invasive species and severe shoreline erosion.  More >
